The Liturgical Current of Culture
A lecture and workshop session on the liturgical tradition of the Latin Church at the Ignatianum Academy and the Dominican Friary, 16–18.05.2014.
A lecture and workshop session on the liturgical tradition of the Latin Church at the Ignatianum Academy and the Dominican Friary, 16–18.05.2014.
The lecture and workshop session entitled “The Liturgical Current of European Culture” is intended for people interested in deepening their knowledge of the liturgical tradition of the Latin Church in terms of its historical grounding and significance, and in touching its practical dimension.
It will include lectures, academic seminars and workshops on Gregorian chant. The historical lectures will deal with the history of the Roman Rite (in the form it had reached by 1962) and its variant, the Dominican Rite. Separate talks will be devoted to the history of liturgical singing in the West, Dominican chant, and questions connected with Latin as a sacred and liturgical language. To deepen reflection on the very meaning of the liturgy, we will offer a seminar on an excerpt from Lawrence Hemming’s book Worship as a Revelation.
During the first two days, participants will be able to get to know liturgical singing in practice in workshops led by Sławomir Witkowski (Schola Cantorum Minorum Chosoviensis). During these workshops participants will prepare the Office (Lauds and Vespers) in the Dominican Rite, which will be celebrated on the last day of the event. On that day we also invite participants to take part in Holy Mass in the extraordinary form of the Roman Rite in the Church of the Holy Cross in Kraków.
The project was coordinated by Barbara Szymańska.
